Jacksboro Highschool Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming weekend will start on Friday, Oct 2, 2009 with the parade line-up at 11:30 a.m. behind the Methodist Church. The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by th coronation at 1:30 p.m., pep rally at 2:30 p.m., Junior Class barbeque meal at the new high school from 4:30-7 p.m., Pre-game ceremonies at 7 p.m. followed by the game. On Saturday, Oct 3, 2009, refreshments will be served at the new high school library beginning at 9:30 a.m., Annual meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the new library, Individual class meetings at 11 a.m. In addition, the Class of 1949 will have a class dinner on Saturday October 3 at the 1st United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. The Class of 1954 will meet at the Green Frog from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday October 3rd. The class of 1959 will celebrate their 50th class reunion and will include a gathering at the Richards Ranch at 3 p.m. Saturday October 3 followed by a catered meal at 6 p.m. The Class of 1969 will hold their 40th reunion Noon, Saturday, October 3rd at Casa Grande. The class of 1975 will meet in the new high school to plan their 35th reunion on Saturday, October 3rd. The Class of 1979 will celebrate their 30th reunion with a fish fry at the home of James Owen at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 3rd. The class of 2004 will gather on Friday, October 2nd at the home of Tali Flores before the game.

Earthkind Rose Program

Jack County Extension will hold a noontime program on Wednesday October 7 at the Scarborough Community Center to discuss Earthkind principles and roses. Earth-Kind is a designation given by AgriLife Extension to those varieties that have passed rigorous state-wide testing and evaluation by a team of horticultural experts, according to the Web site. These varieties perform well without requiring a lot of extra care that many people associate with rose gardening, Welsh noted, and while they are not immune to pest and disease problems, they have a greater tolerance.There is no charge to attend, but participants are asked to call the Extension office at 567-2132 and sign up. You are more than welcome to bring your lunch to eat during the program.

TEXAS FORTS TOUR - A BICYCLE RIDE THROUGH HISTORY BEGINS AT FORT RICHARDSON STATE PARK

The first annual "Texas Forts Tour - a bicycle ride through history" will start out at Fort Richardson State Park with registration and packet pick-up on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. This is a three day event which will take you through more rolling hills and beautiful Texas fall scenery than you may have seen. The Wichita Streams and Valleys Association, Texas Forts Trail Region, Hotter N Hell 100, White Realty Management Co., and the Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce have all provided monetary support for this event. The communities along the route are also providing camping sites, showers, community group labor and other needs in sponsoring this great fall event! Some of these include the Ft. Richardson State Park, the Friends of Ft. Richardson, Graford area, Graham, Ft Belknap, Newcastle, Throckmorton, Ft Griffin, Albany, Breckenridge, Palo Pinto, Mineral wells and the many fire departments and county and city police that serve these areas. CIVIL WAR WEEKEND AT FORT RICHARDSON STATE PARK

Re-enactors will spend the day performing drills, doing battle re-enactments, giving history lessons, etc. They will sound their morning gun to start the day. Most of the activities will be over around 4 p.m., however, there is talk of a night skirmish/battle! RED STEAGALL WAGON TRAIN AND DOC WOOD AT FORT RICHARDSON STATE PARK

The park will be the starting point of Red Steagall's annual wagon train journey to Fort Worth. See the wagons as they start arriving Saturday afternoon. Stay and enjoy Cowboy Poetry featuring the renowned Doc Woods and others on the steps of the historic hospital. Bluegrass Festival at Mitchell Resort and RV Park

The Bluegrass Festival for October will be Friday, October 23 through Saturday, October 24 at Mitchell Resort and RV Park. Open stage starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and Guest Bands play from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. On Saturday Open stage is from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Guest Bands play from 1 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday. 2730 FM 2210 E. A Vintage Promenade From Scarlett to Jackie

The Jack Co Museum will be presenting a style show and luncheon at 11:30 a.m., October 29, 2009 at the Jacksboro Church of Christ activities center, 215 E. Belknap, called " A Vintage Promenade" from Scarlett to Jackie, featuring dresses from the private collection of Dannie Hargrove Shawver. Seating is limited so make your reservation by October 20th.
